Ruby Hammer MBE

An interview

We love the wonderful and talented Ruby Hammer – she’s everything Beautiful Thinking stands for..

56 years young, Ruby looks as fantastic now as she did decades ago!

Ruby’s life has been a bit of a fairy-tale! Born in Nigeria to Bangladeshi parents, Ruby and her family moved to Britain when she was thirteen. Despite taking a BA (Hons) in Economics, her passion was always make-up and without any formal training, Ruby started as an assistant to a make-up artist at London fashion week.  She followed her dream and we love her for it!

Ruby has worked with all of the top designers, including Jaspar Conran, John Galliano and Versace, worldwide magazines like  Vogue, Harpers and Queen, Marie Claire and Elle.  Her make-up skills coupled with her inspiring personality soon attracted TV producers and she appeared on an array of programmes such as The Clothes Show, Britain’s Next Top Model, GMTV and This Morning.

Her career has taken her to the top of her game and in 1998, she was the creative force behind the Ruby and Millie, make-up range.  The brand was exclusively sold in Boots nationally, and became the first UK major cosmetic company to launch for 30 years.

In 2007, she was recognised for her contribution to the cosmetic industry with an MBE – an honour she describes as one of the highlights of her career.

Ruby lives her life mindful of both what she puts inside her body and what she puts on it. Her beauty knowledge is infinite so we are so thrilled that Ruby agreed to answer our five beautiful thinking questions.
